How can I Find a Book, DVD or Video?
All the Library’s books, DVDs, videos are listed in the computers. From the main screen, select Search. Then you can look under “words or phrase”, “author”, “title”, “subject” and even “call number” (Power Search option). When you find a book or media resource materials you want to see, copy the full call number located below the entry for the book. If you need help with the computers, or finding information, please ask the Librarian at the Reference Desk for assistance.
How can I locate a Book on the Shelves?
The book stacks contain shelves of over 23,000 books which you can check out (borrow) or read at the study tables. Signs at the entrance to the stacks will show you which shelf you can locate the call numbers you want. (One of the best ways to add to your CCCLA education is to browse through books of interest to you in the book stacks.)
How Do I Check Out (Borrow) A Book?
To check out one or more books, take them to the Circulation Desk, and present them to the staff member at the desk. Show your Library ID card (or your registration receipt for the current semester and a picture ID. You may check out a maximum of 5 books on one subject. The date due will be stamped inside the book. The Borrowing Period is 14 days, with one renewal. The overdue fine is ten cents a day.
How do I check our Media resources?
The Media Resource Center is located on the third floor of the main building. It houses all the audiovisual materials used to support the curriculum. Use the online catalog to locate the video, DVD, or CD-ROM needed. After locating the media materials, the media center staff will check out the resource. Media Center materials are returned at Information Desk.
What Media Services are available?
Media Services offer a variety of digital services including scanning and printing, video shooting, and editing.
Where do I return a book?
To return a book which you have checked out from the book stacks, drop it in the BOOK RETURN slot located near the entrance to the Library or at the circulation desk. Late books should be returned at the circulation desk
What about Reference Books?
Books in the REFERENCE Area, near the computers, have Reference on the top line of the call number. These Reference Books—such as encyclopedias, dictionaries, and atlas are for use in the Reference area and cannot be checked out. We will help you locate Reference materials, if you cannot find them yourself, and may be able to suggest additional sources. If you need help, please ask.
What about Reserve Books?
You can request Reserve Books at the circulation desk near the entrance to the Library. Most materials on Reserve are in demand, so you can borrow them for overnight at 1:00 p.m. and they are returned the next day by 9:00 a.m. Or you can use the books for 2 hours during the day.
Where can I Read Journals and Magazines?
You can go to the journals section of the Library. You will see many current issues of magazines, journals and newspapers in the reading room, and others you can request at the counter. Journal issues and bound journals cannot be checked out of the Library... Ask the Library staff members how to access journal articles from online databases.
Where Can I Use the Internet and Type Papers?
Most computers in the Media Resource Center and the Library have Internet access. They are provided primarily for research. Chatting and games are not allowed but school related email is acceptable. Word Processing is available. You may bring in your flash drives or floppies to save your work.
Where are the Photocopiers?
Copiers are located in the Library and Media Resource Center. A copy code is needed to use the copiers and printers. Library complies with the United States Copyright Laws (U. S. Code Title 17).
Where Can I find a Place to Study?
Reading rooms, study areas, individuals study carrels and group study rooms are located in the Library and the Media Resource Center. No conversation is allowed in the open areas, please. Your fellow students want to study.
What Other Learning Aids Are Available?
Several “Study Aids” guide sheets are available at the Reference Desk. These give instruction on bibliographies, book reports, essays, resumes, footnotes, suggested topics for term papers and speeches...
What Can I Do To Help?
Please No cell phones, drinking, eating, or smoking in the building.
